The Rennys are a Gainesville-based power pop/rock trio led by veteran singer-songwriter Mick Richmond. A longtime fixture in the local music scene, Richmond made his mark originally with the ska outfit The Skatterbrainz and later as a founding member of Spike the Cat.
Joining him are bassist John Holmes and drummer Masa Enomoto. Holmes, a founding member of the synth-pop band :2902 and the psychedelic-tinged Flesh Castanet, also played alongside Richmond in Spike the Cat. Enomoto is an in-demand session and live percussionist, is a former member of the band Morningbell and remains active across Gainesville’s jazz, pop, and experimental scenes.
Formed in 2021, The Rennys have built a reputation for catchy, jangly hooks and dynamic live performances. Their debut album, Shiny Pretty Things, was released in summer 2023 and landed them a feature on Season 3 of the show WUFT Amplified. The band is currently back in the studio, crafting a follow-up collection that dives deeper into their signature blend of melodic grit and power pop shimmer.
