GREENNESS started as a math rock duo, in St. Augustine, FL, in 2004 between Mitch Cheney (Guitar - Rumah Sakit, Sweep The Leg Johnny, Hey!Tonal) and John Citrone (Drums - Bogus Pomp, Dovetonsil). After releasing their debut on Sick Room Records (Chicago) & Stiff Slack records (Japan), the pair toured the country and played shows with acts like Don Caballero, Sleepytime Gorilla Museum, Dinosaur Jr. and Explosions In The Sky. They will be joined by fellow North Florida musical alumni Alan Mills (Guitar - Terror Management Band, Burl, Hey!!Tonal), and Alex Crowson (Bass - Whorlman, Tsui), for what promises to be a highly technical, yet recklessly abandoned, performance at Shanghai Nobby's, @ 9:00pm, on September 5th, 2023.
You never quite know when GREENNESS will next take to the stage. Created in 2004, this Florida-based band creates instrumental tracks with a math rock flare. Their sounds fill the venue like a mage’s spell or a heavy mist through the swamp. Licks that layer, clash, and linger meet bursting percussion in each of their songs. Indeed, the cover for GREENNESS’s track “In Fond Remembrance of Doug Keith. Wait, He’s Still Alive. I Need to Call Him.” features a collage of skateboarders — an appropriate visualization of the band’s sound, which could be described as ‘organized chaos.’ The four wizards of GREENNESS (Mitch Cheney on guitar, John Citrone on drums, Alan Mills on guitar, and Alex Crowson on bass) often tour this land alongside other math rock groups, regularly absorbing their musicians for spellbinding shows.
